Everyone who is held in immigration detention has been forcibly separated from a community of people who care about them and want them to be safe. As long as the North Lake Correctional Facility remains open as a detention center, we want to do as much as we can to support the people who are held inside, and to uplift the efforts of their family members and loved ones.
Below is a list of fundraisers we’ve seen for people who either are or have been imprisoned by ICE and the GEO Group at North Lake. If you would like us to add a fundraiser to this list, or if there’s any other way we can support a loved one who is detained in Baldwin, please contact us at NLprisonersupport@riseup.net or (313) 306-2296.
- Please help bring Lucas’s dad back home
- Lucas’s dad has been detained at North Lake since June 2025.
- Support Maci’s family in their time of need
- “On Monday July 14, 2025 our lives were turned upside down when ICE took my daughter’s Fiancée Max as he was driving to work. My daughter Maci is almost 32 weeks pregnant with identical twin girls(which is a high risk pregnancy) and has a beautiful 1 & a half year old daughter already. Max is the sole provider for their family and the only driver in their household. The uncertainty is horrifying and the reality of my daughter having to deliver their twins without their father present is setting in. Maci is scheduled for a c section which will require an extended healing period and the twins will be born at 36 weeks if not sooner and may require additional extended care. Without Max, it leaves Maci and her children without financial, physical and emotional support. On top of a high risk pregnancy, we are also trying to navigate the difficult legal process of helping Max as he is detained in a processing center in Baldwin, MI. In the coming weeks and months they will need financial support for household expenses, possible additional medical expenses for Maci and the twins and legal fees for Max to hopefully bring him back home with his family.”
- Keep Sandro home and prevent his deportation
- “Sandro went in for a routine check-in with immigration on April 30th (he does this bi-annually) and due to a marijuana charge from 2007, when he was still a 17 year old child, ICE detained him. Sandro has never been someone who accepts or even asks for help from others, he is ALWAYS the one who is there for everyone else. This is our long-shot hope that we can keep him here, in the only country he knows, with the family he has made. I know times are hard, but anything would be appreciated and would help so much – even if it’s just sharing.”
- My dad was detained by ICE – Help support our family
- “My name is Tommy and I am writing this on behalf of my dad. We left our home in Holland, Michigan on 6/24/2025, my dad and I went to his regular immigration check-in at Grand Rapids. He didn’t come out for 30 minutes and 2 men came out to inform me that he was going to be detained and sent to an ice detention center in Calhoun County to review his case. I asked if I could see him and talk to him and they told me the place was too “busy”. They told me that he would arrive in an hour and gave me a piece of paper to write my number down so he could contact me when he arrived. After hours of trying to contact him, my mom found out that he was sent to a completely different detention center in Baldwin, Michigan. Currently, he is detained while ICE is trying to get him deported back to Laos a country he hasn’t been to since he was 8 years old.”
- Support Nael’s Legal Fight Against ICE – Help Bring Him Home
- “Nael Shamma has called the United States home for over 50 years. He was just 9 years old when his family came here seeking a better life, and America is the only home he’s ever known. He grew up here, worked here, raised his family here, and has always believed in the promise of this country. Nael is the third oldest of seven siblings — the brother everyone can count on. He’s a loving husband to Christina, a devoted father of four, a proud grandfather of two, and a caring uncle to many. He helps care for his elderly parents, works hard to provide for his family, and is always the first to show up when someone needs a hand. But a few days ago, without warning, ICE agents bombarded him at his usual coffee spot and took him away.”
- Help Reunite a Family Torn Apart
- “On the morning of July 8th a community member got ready for work, kissed his pregnant girlfriend goodbye, got into his car, like he always had, and started to drive to work. As soon as he pulled out onto the pubic road he was swarmed by 6 unmarked cars. He was ordered out of his car, and these agents refused to look at his paperwork. He was trying to show them his immigration papers, and that he was legally here, having done everything exactly as told. These agents refused to look at his paperwork, ordered him to remove his belt, and his hat. They handcuffed him and took him to the detention center in Baldwin, MI.”
- Bring Elvira and Ricardo Home
- “Ricardo is a loving husband to Elvira. They are both an important part of our family and community. We are doing everything we can to fight for their release and keep our family together, but we can’t do it alone. We are asking for your help — any amount you can give will go directly toward legal fees to fight for their freedom and help bring them home.”
- Emergency Fund for Children Separated from Mom
- “A Manchester family is in crisis after an ICE raid led to the detention of a mother who had been working and caring for her three children, ages 15, 8, and 18 months. Overnight, these kids lost the stability of having their mom at home. This fundraiser is to stand with them in this moment. Your contribution will go directly to supporting the children while their family faces an uncertain road ahead.”
- Help Wilson Brito Reunite with His Family
- “On 07/25/25, our beloved friend and community member, Wilson Brito, was unjustly detained by ICE in Detroit. His sudden detention has left his family devastated and in urgent need of support to cover legal expenses for his defense. Wilson is a devoted father of three, including a newborn baby. He is the sole provider for his family, with Daniela now left alone to care for their children.”
- Support Alee’s Fight for Freedom
- “My dad, Alee, has been detained by the Department of Homeland Security — and we are doing everything we can to bring him home. Alee is more than just a husband and a father — he is the glue to my family. He is a refugee who came to America in 1994 seeking safety and a chance at a better life. He is now detained at North Lake Detention Center in Baldwin, Michigan, a place 2 hours and 30 minutes from his hometown.”
